Alcester and District Bowls Club
Enjoying bowls is about more than just rolling a ball toward a target — it’s a blend of skill, focus, and friendly competition that brings people together and offers a perfect balance of relaxation and challenge.
Alcester London House Club own the Alcester and District Crown Bowling Green situated in Meeting Lane, Alcester (opposite the Town Hall), postcode B49 5QT and is the most southerly in Britain.
We have friendly bowling sessions, which several members attend, on Monday and Thursday mornings from 10.00 am and on Saturday afternoon/evening from 3.00 pm. The club also play competitively in the South Birmingham Leagues on Monday and Friday mornings and Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
You can enjoy club competitions with our Club Championship running throughout the season and other one day competitions which are open to all club members.
As a member of the bowling club, you would, of course, be able to bowl at any time during the week, apart from when there are league matches or competitions in progress.
The Club has an active and growing membership and is very pleased to welcome new members whether novices or experienced bowlers – and juniors (under 18) are also encouraged to try this sport. Visitors are allowed providing they are accompanied by a club member and equipment is available to borrow for anyone new to the sport.
Open days are held where anyone is welcome to try their hand at Crown Green Bowling – no experience necessary. Also, our members are willing to help anyone who is considering taking up Crown Green Bowling so that you can learn how to play a new sport which is both skilful and enjoyable. Why not come along and learn the basics of how to play, the skills and the tactics and enjoy a balance of relaxation and challenge.
The activities are managed by the Bowls Club Chairman & Secretary, and the season generally runs from 1st April through to the end of September although, In the winter, we run coffee mornings on Fridays at 11am at London House to keep members in contact with one another.
The Bowls Club is over 400 years old and is believed to have been in existence in 1605

Rambling
For your mind, body, spirit and creativity
The Rambling Club
Clear your head by walking through the countryside and let your thoughts wander. It breaks routine, shakes loose ideas, and gives perspective that staying still rarely does. Rambling is gentle exercise. It lowers stress hormones, improves heart health, and just plain feels good to move in fresh air.
Are you new to the area and would like to meet new friends whilst getting to know the area?
Why not start a friendly group of ramblers who meet at the club. Then walk a wide and varied range of walks, all from the club and possibly around 4 miles long. The walks could finish in Alcester where you can enjoy a light lunch and maybe a drink back at the Club as a reward!
If you would like to start a walking group then just turn up at the club and find like minded people. Call 01789 – 762458 for more details.
Fishing
Peace, therapy or the thrill of the catch
The Fishing Club
You can fish alone to clear your head or turn it into a weekend event with friends or family. Both work perfectly. It’s one of those hobbies that bridges generations — everyone from a child to a grandparent can share in it.
The Fishing club is a friendly and just for fun group that welcomes people of all ages, male or female. You will always be welcome to join us for some time on the river bank.
We have regular matches throughout the year (normally once a month) at various locations throughout the region.
If you are interested in joining us, please contact Kevin Bell by calling the club on 01789 – 762458 with your name and number and they will get back to you.
